The Nurnberg International toyfair runs from January 28th to February 2nd, 2015
There are 2857 exhibitors this year from 67 countries, the biggest contingent ever.
For many years, that toy fair was the venue where model train manufacturers presented their new products, however, with the internet it's hard for manufacturers to keep new items under wraps.
Pretty much all new G-Scale products to be introduced in 2015 and 2016 are known by now but there may still be the odd surprise, especially by smaller companies.
Be nice if Bachmann announced something in Large Scale. After asking what kind of coaches we wanted (couple of years ago) they produced some nice duckbill end older style (1860-1880) coaches in HO !
Don't get your hopes up, LS manufacturing is still in the dumps from the recession, lots of NOS still laying around that needs to be sold off before they consider any new production runs. If On30 doesn't get anything new from the Bmann then you can bet a dollar LS wont get anything either.
and then type New2015 into the seach field.
No space between New and 2015
There was nothing really earth-shattering that was introduced, but at least G scale is alive and well.
The items that interested me the most was the new DCC system by Piko called SmartControl.
It's currently availbale for the smaller scales only with a limit of 5 amps and 18 volts on the track, but Dr. Wilfer suggested in one interview at the fair that a "G scale" version could come next year.
Right now Piko sells their Massoth adaptation for G scale.
The SmartControl is based on the ESU mobile II throttle which is a cross between a smart phone interface and a traditional knob based model train control.
Communication between the throttle and the Central Station is via WiFi.
The nice thing is that everything is built into the Central Station and the whole thing comes as a complete package at a very attractive price with what I think is an attractive and functional throttle.
