Ward Kimball had a stock car at the end of the line on his three-foot gauge railroad so you could see it when driving by. It contained a stuffed lion with antlers. Go figure.

If Lionel's patents have expired then can one look forward to G gauge stock yards, ice plants for reefers, and other such goodies?
One can only hope.

Bachmann has the horse and cow and now added a reindeer stock car with bobbing heads.

Frankly, I am waiting for G gauge animated cars and scenes that are like the original Lionel apparatus' of the post-WW2 era.
I really like the old animated scenes and would like to see these brought back.
There are two things that interested me in the old days and today.
1) the animations
2) modifying the existing locomotives to resemble others from different railroads. Like Bill Schoup did in the post war (World War 2) era. As I recall his articles were in Railroad Model Craftsman in the day. Yes, Fine Scale Modeling was not an element in those days.
I intend to go back to those wonderful days of yesteryear and model for the sheer fun of it.

I have to agree with you Stephen, my brother had a Lionel layout with the automated milk car. I'd love to have something like that in Large Scale to go along with the dairy farm scene my wife built.

I would suppose the greatest deterrent to marketing animated accessories for our large scale(s) is the cost per accessory. At the hobby store where I work part time, even the lower cost Lionel O gauge accessories tend to carry a $150.00 (OK, $149.99 - sue me for a penny) price tag. Now consider that the accessory needs to be about twice the size of O gauge highrail stuff, and needs to be able to function and live outdoors. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade. It's just that the folks who manufacture these things need to show a profit and NOT create "shelf queens" for the retailers (remember the Bachmann GE 45 tonner - wish they had made a 1:20.3 version of the On30 Whitcomb instead). Standard gauge prototype shown.

I think that this is an area where the modeler needs to get creative and build something to suit his/her needs or wants. I have done similar things to get stock nobody else makes, like the "rolling pun" shown below.

Best wishes
