Default We need an approval process for new members

We are getting more and more spam it seems.

I would think that the tools on this site would have an approval process such that new members could be moderated, i.e. their posts would be approved for the first few posts.

This would stop the stupid spam we are getting by the one time bots.

What think you fellow MLS'ers ?

Greg

The membership here probably approves of that whole heartedly... but management is only interested in total membership count and spammers are just more members.

"Hey potential advertisers! We has a bazillion members to see your adverts. Never mind that half of those were spammers that will never be back to see what you advertise and half of what's left, quit because of our mismanagement of the MLS site and won't see it either."

I think the case could easily be made that a lot of spam on an established site means people will leave if the site is not maintained.

The spammers are not here long enough to make the site money, we are, by a huge factor.

Spammers get more and more clever especially when they are employing real people. I will up some of the anti spam plugins to make them a little more sensitive in regards to new users posts. Teh site currently looks at the fist 5 posts from a new users to look for a spam posting algorithm. If you do spot any spam please do hit the report post button so we can handle this accordingly.
