Default Misleading post notifications??

I've suddenly started getting emailed FAKE notifications, purportedly from MLS, that there are new posts in topics I've subscribed to. These turn out to be spam advertisements for replica watches. This renders the Forum's "subscribe" function useless to me, and I unsubscribe to the infected topics as soon as I get them.

What's going on? Has anyone else seen this?

If this has been reported already, sorry for the duplication.

Dawg

What? - you don't like being notified of this great opportunity to buy some really expensive watches, well replicas, at rock-bottom prices?

Just kidding of course.

Looks to me as if member ppor had his account compromised allowing someone else to take it over and post all over mls.

The posts are gone now - I assume ppor's account is suspended for the time being so you shouldn't get any more of this garbage - at least not from ppor.

A chink has just been found in the MLS armor and is being looked into. Tell me Dawg, were these spam posts made in topics you were already subscribed to, or did the subscription get turned on by the spam? It's important that we know this.

Fortunately, no one's account was hacked. This particular individual just made a bunch of posts in a wide variety of forums--some that have been dormant for two years--in a very short amount of time. That brought his post count up to the mid 70s within around 30 minutes of joining. This shouldn't be possible with the software safeguards for time between posts, but for some reason, those safeguards seem not to be kicking in at the moment. We're working on fixing that, and Mr. Watch Salesman has been unceremoniously sent on his way. Your individual accounts are safe.

Later,

K

This does bring up a good thought.

Make sure your password is not easy for someone to guess. Changing passwords every so often is smart.

I already deleted all the email notifications I received - around 15 or so, but all the ones I looked at were in topics that I had already subscribed to - no new subscriptions were turned on.

I blew mine off the planet as soon as I got them. But I think the vast majority were posts I had subscribed to. When I went to Active Topics to see what was going on, it looked like many others had been hit too, but I didn't get notification on those.
