Default rivet, nail, and bolt spacing

So say you guys have a riveted tank you are scratch building or say you are building crates with nails and you want to say use escutcheon pins for rivets or dots for nails on a crate, do you have an easy way to mark where to put the pins or the dots?

I did recently buy a set of pounce wheel type tools and I guess I could use tracing paper with them, but haven't tried it yet. Just wondered who had a great labor saving idea?

Yes. I print a template and tape it to the material. Something as simple as Microsoft Powerpoint can space dots equally, though I have Visio which makes it easier as it uses real measurements. Here's a pic of my punch (vertical drill press) making bolt-heads in some thin brass.
