Default e-book on ASTER

I wrote an e-book on: The Unauthorised History of ASTER.
A book with text and pictures on
LOCOMOTIVES THAT CHANGED THE LIVE STEAM SCENE.

This book is a “history of ASTER” from 1975 until 2016. It is a history based on the products of ASTER and not of the company. It could also be called a personal history since it is made by me and not discussed with the ASTER company or any previous or current ASTER distributor, re-seller or customer.

Hi Fred,
Excellent book well done.
I just had a quick 'flip' through it and ended up at 4.2.4 and what do I see, a mention of my building coaches.
Thank you for including me in the book.
If you are including the UK in the definition of Europe, then nearly 25% of my production went to Europe, most being British coaches to the UK.

Fred, well done it's good to see a timeline and history of Aster models and also some of the pamphlets that they put out. The models were very advanced for their particular time and still are in many respects, even the earlier ones. The early models capture the essence of the prototype and are good runners still even 40 years on, my favorite 'go to' runners are early Asters. They certainly raised the bar with each model.

As this is an e-book it can be easily changed. I will collect any remarks (corrections, additions) I receive, I received already a couple, and make a new version. Any remark is most welcome.

Fred, I was very impressed with your e-book on the locomotives from Aster. But I was disappointed that you apparently did not have the opportunity to get to know and report on the late US-sponsored Aster models. The Berkshire brought Aster back to properly researched and detailed US models after a long drought filled only by the non-specific Mikado. The S2 followed and offered increased detail, a free steaming boiler, drain cocks, a whistle (admitedly not Aster's strongest suit) and a first for Aster: a Vanderbilt tender. The Challenger, despite quality control issues at the factory, brought this increased level of detail to articulateds and even had draincocks - on an articulated. All this was presented at a price considerably lower than the last US articulated that preceded it - the Allegheny. The FEF was the final US commissioned model and was a model with the high degree of detail that Aster buyers had come to expect from the US commissioned models. The boiler was extremely efficient, so much so that the locomotive would maintain pressure at speed even with the draincocks open.

I expect that I have not done these later US models full justice either, but I wanted to make sure that they were not glossed over in an otherwise outstanding book.

Hello Ross,
Indeed I have not seen any Berkshire, Challenger or FEF, so I could not mention anything but what I read on leaflets or the internet. I do have the S2 and I tried to write positive about this locomotive, but maybe not enough? To make up for this here is a video of my S2 running fine:
