I've sorta been a model RailRoader most of my life, but mainly armchair for past decade.
I've been in MARX, Lionel, HO, O, On3, littlebit of On30, and a minute bit of G - if you can call anything in G scale minute!.
Anyhoo, I have a Big Hauler set that I am starting to get into a little.
I will ben asking several questions along (if u don't mind?)

Thanks for the welcome!

If the Big Hauler has plastic side rods then limit what you pull in weight and quantity.
I would not try more than 3 cars and it should last a long time.
