Censorship for the priviieged is alive and well on MLS

Title says it all.

armorsmith 09-17-2018 07:28 PM

Reading too many fora at the same time. The censorship is here. The thread I posted to on Saturday has been made unfindable for the general public. The only means for ME to find it is a search for MY Threads. I would love to engage in a dialog with Principals of this forum regarding the tilted moderation of same. I would have thought that Dwight's leaving would have been a red flag that something is very wrong.

My apologies to the folks on LSC as they are the most even handed forum I am involved in.

I didn't realize that some members had the influence to have threads sent to Purgatory. I now know better.

The entire thread is gone, or just a comment?

If someone posts a comment on an old thread, that thread gets moved to the top of the queue. If that last (recent) comment is deleted for whatever reason, the thread itself returns to the list according to the date on the previous most recent post. It hasn't disappeared, it just went to page 2, 3, or wherever it would happen to fall. This is most common when spammers revive years-old threads and we delete the spammers comments (and lock their account).

PM sent with further info.

Later,

K

Kevin,
If he meant MLS, then shouldn't you change the title or delete this, in fairness to LSC ?

would like to see the answer to Pete's question

I find a google site-specific search very useful. Try "site:mylargescale.com armorsmith" or similar.

And don't fool yourself. There are no Principals, nor did Dwight leaving raise any flags. When you run dozens of forums, people come and go all the time.

Title changed.

With regard to "censorship" on this site (i.e., posts getting deleted by moderators), that is a no-win game. When one forum member bends the bounds of civility, it may or may not impact or reflect on other posts in that same thread. From a moderator's perspective, we have three options when such things are brought to our attention. First, we can do nothing. If we do nothing, we get "I'm being disrespected and you're letting it happen even though it's against the rules" complaints from those who were wronged. Second, we can delete only the post that was specifically flagged to our attention. If we do that, then we get "why did you delete my post but not anyone else's when they said the same thing I did?" complaints from those who posted the post which got flagged. Or, we can delete all the related posts in a given thread relating to the complaint. If we do that, we get "Why did you delete my posts when I did nothing wrong?" complaints from those whose posts got caught in the dragnet.

Do you want a headache, backache, or stomachache? You're not walking away from the situation without getting crap from someone. Life's rule #26 - you can't please all of the people all of the time.

K

Thank you Kevin for changing the title.

As for the thread, it was a thread I started about a year ago requesting information regarding another member here who claimed to do what no other modeler has been able to do. I asked for some documentation as I am sure I am not the only person interested in the process. I posted to the thread 9/13/2018. The active topics listing goes all the way back to 8/30/2018, and there is no sign of my thread that should show up there.

Do I feel censured, absolutely. This is not the first instance where threads have 'vanished with out trace', first time for me, but I know of others. Do I believe on this forum there are the 'privileged few', absolutely. It is the largest reason I seldom post here unless there is something of specific interest to me. That thread was one.

At this point in time, I am pretty sure the original poster of the 'unobtainium' will remain silent on the subject. I won't pursue this any further, other than to say I should have know better. It is probably a moot point anyway.

Pete the point of my agitation is that it should be where EVERYONE can see it. It does little good if I am the only viewer when the intent was for anyone interested in the process could garner the ingormation. I am aware of and use site specific searches all the time, as the search engines in most fora fall short in that area. A compliment I will pass to MLS is their search engine is pretty good and better than most.

Just curious if you know that it was removed? Did you actually see it in the thread, and then later it was gone?
I ask because websites and networks aren't infallible; things can get lost.
